Rhinelander Drunk Driving Accident: 9-Year-Old Killed, Mother, Brother Injured

A nine-year-old boy was killed in a Rhinelander drunk driving accident Tuesday.

According to officials with Oneida County Sheriff’s Department, the crash occurred Tuesday morning just outside Lake Geneva. Police say the mother, an elementary school teacher, was driving her two sons to school when she saw an oncoming car swerving. The woman pulled off the road to avoid the vehicle, but was struck head-on. The vehicle was driven by a 33 year-old Rhinelander man, who investigators say was intoxicated.

The nine-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The mother and her other son were transported by ambulance to Lakeland Medical Center for treatment.

The Rhinelander man was taken to a Milwaukee area hospital for treatment of his injuries. He is under police guard.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims during this extremely difficult time.
