Former Wisconsin Senator David Zien Injured in Motorcycle Accident

Former Wisconsin Senator David Zien was injured in a motorcycle accident in Florida last week.

According to officials with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Zien struck an SUV that had flipped over on its side on a Daytona Beach highway on March 13. Deputies say Zien was transported by helicopter to Tallahassee Memorial Medical Center for treatment.

The 61 year-old former senator suffered a fractured pelvis in the accident. Zien, a long time opponent of helmet laws, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, but did not sustain any serious head injuries in the crash.

“He’s actually doing pretty good, considering,” Zien’s fiancée Suzanne Bowe said. “His spirits are really good. He’s looking at it that it could have been worse. I assume he will probably be on a bike again some time. Probably a three-wheeler.”
