A snow storm in the northern and central Wisconsin resulted in the closure of schools and roadways.

According to officials, the storm began Tuesday night and continued through Wednesday. Some areas received two inches of snow while others received 18 inches.

The storm was accompanied by strong winds up to 45 mph and knocked the power out in over 14,000 homes. Southern areas only experienced heavy rains and temperatures up to the mid 30s.

Weekend car crash sends three to hospital

A car crash over the weekend caused three people to be sent to the hospital. According to officials in Washburn County, a man and wife along with another driver, were injured after the two vehicles collided head-on.

The man and wife were traveling eastbound on the highway when their vehicle crossed over the center line and struck a westbound vehicle head-on.

Two victims, in two separate vehicles, were trapped after the collision and had to be extricated by emergency personnel. Both the married couple and the driver of the other vehicle were transported to the hospital by helicopter in order to be treated. The accident occurred just five miles west of Tower Hill road.

Assembly: Drunk driving laws proposed in Wisconsin

A new bill is in the Wisconsin Assembly at this time that is aiming to help tighten the laws on drunk driving in the state in order to prevent people from getting behind the wheel of a car after drinking.

In the state of Wisconsin, a drunk driving charge is not considered a felony until the fourth conviction. The new bill, Assembly Bill 208, states that the third drunk driving charge will now be felony.

Many are for this bill, but also want even tougher laws to be put into place such as sobriety checkpoints. Many supporters of this bill have lost a family member in an accident that involved drunk driving and want to see something done about this serious issue.

Wisconsin State Patrol increased their law enforcement over the weekend in order to prepare for drunk drivers on the roadway after the Super Bowl.

One killed after Valder rollover crash

A 22-year-old man was killed after a rollover crash occurred near the town of Valder last week.

According to Wisconsin state police, the 22-year-old was driving a pickup truck down the roadway with one passenger inside when the one-car crash occurred. The driver failed to handle the curve of the road correctly and his truck hit a ditch causing it to flip and rollover.

The driver and passenger, also age 22, were transported to the hospital, but the driver later died of injuries sustained. The passenger’s injuries are said to be non-life threatening.
