Justin Mentell, who played attorney Garrett Wells on the ABC show from 2005-2006, went down a steep embankment in his Jeep and hit two trees Monday in rural Wisconsin.

He was found dead near his vehicle. The actor was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected from the Jeep.

Police say there is “no indication” that alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash. Rescue personnel arrived on the scene around 9 a.m., but authorities say the accident probably occurred before sunrise.
