Tribal Leader Faces Charges

The chairman of the Sokaogon Mole Lake Band of Chippewa was charged with operating while intoxicated after an accident last month, adding to his pending drunk driving charge from August and four previous operating while intoxicated convictions. A criminal complaint says the 58-year-old was driving a vehicle that overturned very early in the morning. Medical personnel had to extricate the man with the Jaws of Life.

The deputy on the scene said the man was slurring his speech and smelled strongly of intoxicants. He was taken to the hospital with injuries.
