One dies in suspicious lake crash

A police investigation has been focusing on a Wausau woman’s death after a Moraine Lake crash on June 6.

The woman’s 23-year-old son was with her in her pickup truck prior to the crash. He was able to escape of the vehicle and pull his mother from the lake. However, the woman was already dead by that time. He promptly dialed 911 just before 5:00 a.m., and authorities arrived shortly afterward. He was taken to Ministry Sacred Heart Hospital and released after being treated for his injuries.

Lincoln County are less certain that this is just a case of driver error, however. The investigation is releasing their toxicology report possibly this Friday, although next week is more likely. They will not yet be making public their autopsy results, though, as these are too sensitively tied to the ongoing investigation. The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation is currently working with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department to determine the cause of the crash.
