3 Killed in Rhinelander Car Accident

Three people were killed in a two-vehicle Rhinelander car accident early Sunday.

According to officials with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, the crash occurred on Wisconsin 11 near the east side of South Wayne. Police say a pickup truck driven by 20 year-old Travis Kirschbaum, of Glen Haven, was traveling westbound on Wisconsin 11 when it crossed the center line and struck a vehicle traveling eastbound driven by 67 year-old Richard Christen, of Monroe.

Christen and two of his passengers, 70 year-old Carol Wenger and 65 year-old Kathryn Olin were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Another passenger, 67 year-old Richard Olin was transported to Monroe Clinic Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Wisconsin 11 was closed for several hours while crews worked to clean up the scene.
