Two Rhinelander Men Injured in N.D. Car Accident

Two men from Rhinelander were injured in a car accident on U.S. Highway 2 in North Dakota Thursday.

According to officials with the North Dakota Highway Patrol, 44 year-old Jay Scott and 42 year-old Donald Helgeson, both of Rhinelander, were injured in a two-vehicle accident Thursday at the intersection of Highway 2 and State Highway 32 at Lakota, about 60 miles west of Grand Forks. Police say Scott was driving a 2006 Ford pickup south from the stop sign on a frontage road to cross Highway 2 shortly after 11:30 a.m. when the accident occurred.

According to the incident report, Scott drove into the passenger side of a westbound 2005 Kenworth semi-truck hauling a cement mixer driven by 57 year-old William Wolford, of Devils Lake.: The pickup came to rest in the north ditch of the highway, while the cement truck crossed the highway and ended up in the ditch of the frontage road.

Scott and Helgeson were transported to Mercy Hospital in Devils Lake for treatment. Helgeson was later taken to Altru Hospital in Grank Forks, where he is listed in stable condition, according to the highway patrol.

Wolfrod was not injured in the accident.

Scott was cited for failing to yield.
