Mosinee Man in Critical Condition After Rhinelander Car Accident

A Mosinee man remained in serious condition Tuesday after a Rhinelander car accident.

According to officials with the Portage County Sheriff’s Department, the accident occurred shortly after 12:05 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 39 near Highway 54. Deputies say 20 year-old Nathaniel Grundman was traveling north when he lost control of his vehicle, drove through a median, and collided with a southbound semi truck.

Grundman was pinned in the wreckage and was extricated by members of the Plover Fire and Rescue Department, police said. He was transported by ambulance to Ministry Saint Michael’s Hospital in Stevens Point for treatment. He was later transferred to Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield.

The 50 year-old Tomahawk man driving the semi-truck told deputies he would seek treatment for his injuries on his own, according to the accident report.

The crash remains under investigation. Police say alcohol was not a factor in the accident.
