Green Bay Man Convicted in Fatal Rhinelander Car Accident

A man from Green Bay will be sentenced February 2 in Lincoln County for misdemeanor charges relating to a fatal Rhinelander car accident.

According to Lincoln County Circuit Court documents, 19 year-old Michael Destaercke was found guilty last week of causing an injury and causing a death by operating a vehicle without a valid license. He was found not guilty of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle and of homicide by use of a vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance.

In 2009, While driving without a license, Destaercke was involved in a car accident which resulted in the death of 80 year-old Three Lakes-resident Carol Yahr. Her husband, 81 year-old Warren Yahr, was injured in the accident.

Destaercke also sustained life-threatening injuries in the crash.
