Minor Injuries in School Bus Crash Outside Rhinelander

Four children sustained minor injuries Tuesday morning in a school bus crash outside of Rhinelander.

According to officials with the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department, the accident occurred shortly after 7:00 a.m. at the intersection of Ninth Lane and Highway F. Deputies say the school bus slid was traveling on Ninth Lane and slid through the intersection. A car on Highway F collided with the bus and the two vehicles went into a roadside ditch. The bus came to rest against a utility pole.

Authorities say there were 20 students on the bus at the time of the accident. Students had to wait inside the vehicle for more than 20 minutes before power was shut off to the utility pole.

Two Maple Grove Elementary School students and two Prarie River Middle School students suffered cuts and bruises in the accident, according to assistant superintendent with Merrill Area Public Schools Bruce Anderson.

The crash remains under investigation by the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department.
