Chevrolet Sonic cars with fuel tank issue recalled

Automaker giant General Motors Co voluntarily recalled the latest models of Chevrolet Sonic mini cars due to a potential defect found in the straps holding the fuel tank, a report from Reuters stated on October 7.

At least 1,658 Sonic 2013-2014 models were affected by improper weld straps that may cause the fuel tank to fall. The automaker further stressed that the recalled vehicles may catch on fire if the fuel tank becomes detached, pierced, and ignites.

There were no reports of people being injured or fires associated with the recalled Sonics, GM added. The issue will be addressed by inspecting and reinforcing the bracket straps that hold the fuel tanks of the recalled vehicles.
