More than 800k GM vehicles with defective starters included in new recall

Auto manufacturer giant General Motors is now recalling a total of 1.6 million vehicles with possible faulty starters after it recently added another 842,000 vehicles to the recall, an article published by CBS News on February 25 stated.

Reports state that the affected GM vehicles may have a defective starter and have been linked to numerous fatal accidents. According to the automaker, if the starters became loose due to weighty key rings or being jolted from unpaved roads, the switch may turn to the “off” position and completely stop the engine. Stopping the engine may result in power loss and disable the airbags, power steering, and brakes.

GM said they will address the issue by changing the starters. However, the parts are not yet available.
