GM urged to be more aggressive in recall efforts

On March 27, Senator Richard Blumenthal of the GM oversight committee urged GM to issue stronger notifications to consumers regarding recalled vehicles.

In a letter to GM’s CEO, Mary Barra, Blumenthal mentioned that in order to keep consumers safe, the public warnings about the recalled vehicles should be improved. The recalled vehicles have ignition switch defects that could affect car’s power systems, including the airbags and other safety features.

So far, 12 deaths have been linked to the defective vehicles. Barra mentioned that the ignition switches will not malfunction if no additional keys or accessories are attached to the car key.
