59k GM vehicles with transmission issues recalled

Automaker giant General Motors Co. (GM) is recalling over 59,000 previous models of mid-sized vehicles sold in the U.S. and Canada due to a transmission issue, Reuters reported on May 6.

At least 59,628 previous models of Aura vehicles were affected by the recall. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the transmission shift cable in the affected vehicle may break. NHTSA explained that when the cable breaks, drivers may be prevented from shifting to the “park” position, allowing the vehicle to suddenly move and increasing the risk of sustaining an injury. GM cited 28 accidents and four injuries involving the recalled Auras. The automaker will repair the recalled vehicles for free, NHTSA said.
