GM recalls thousands of mid-sized sedans with braking issues

American car maker General Motors (GM) recalled thousands of mid-sized sedans affected by braking problems, CBS News reported on May 16.

Reports said the rotors in the brakes of 8,200 recent models of Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Malibu vehicles were mistakenly switched; rear rotors, which are thinner, were installed in the front. Affected vehicles may experience delayed or failed braking because the braking pads may get worn out easier. Though no one reportedly has been hurt from using the affected vehicles, dealers on May 1 were instructed to stop releasing them. Owners of the affected mid-sized sedans will be notified by dealers on May 29 when the free repair of their cars will take place.

People are likely to sustain serious injuries in car crashes if the brakes in their vehicles malfunction due to a defect.
