Advanced technology in vehicles worsen distracted driving

Drivers are at great risk of being distracted on the road by taking advantage of the high-tech, hands-free features on their vehicles, an article on Fox News stated October 7.

Two recent studies concluded that hand-free methods for using technology while driving is not a safe alternative. Using voice commands programs like Siri routinely increased accidents in driving simulations due to distraction. Another study found that the integrated technology systems in newer cars also are a safety risk. It seems as though a large part of the distraction is mainly due to having to correct errors made by these systems, suggesting that this might eventually be a safer alternative in the future as technology improves.
