Bursting airbags prompt Toyota recall

Toyota is recalling 247,000 vehicles in the U.S. equipped with Takata airbags that may burst and injure occupants in an accident, CNBC 25 stated on October 20.

Reports said various 2002-2005 models of pickup trucks, SUVs, and cars in the U.S. have Takata airbags installed in the front passenger seat. Regional airbag recalls were issued by several auto manufacturers, including Toyota, under suspicion that humidity may influence the dangerous airbag defect. There are already over 4.5 million vehicles that have the potentially dangerous airbags being recalled in certain areas. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that they are currently linking bursting airbags to high humidity exposure.
