Couple fatally struck by vehicle outside Caledonia church

A couple who just attended a church Mass in a Caledonia church recently died after being hit by an oncoming SUV, the Chicago Tribune stated on January 25.

Reports said the 83-year-old couple, Oscar Lang and Vernetta Lang, was traveling on foot outside St. Louis Catholic Church at 5:30 p.m. when they were hit by a vehicle. Church Reverend Mark Danczyk stated that the couple succumbed to their injuries at the accident scene after being thrown in the collision. Two nurses who attended the same church attempted to save the couple before medical personnel arrived, and Danczyk also said he administered last rights to the couple before they passed.

Authorities are currently investigating the 32-year-old female vehicle driver responsible for the collision. She was not injured in the crash, nor were the two child passengers in the vehicle. Lieutenant Gary Larsen stated alcohol was not considered a factor in the crash. The couple reportedly was longtime members of St. Louis Catholic Church.
