320K Toyota vehicles recalled in the US

An estimated 320,000 Toyota vehicles have been recalled in the U.S. due to an airbag problem that can cause injuries to occupants, a February 2 article of CBS News stated.

Reports said the airbags located in the roofs of some Toyota trucks and Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) may suddenly and randomly deploy even without the force of an impact. According to the Japanese auto manufacturer, the issue may have been the result of “improper programming” in the airbag systems of the vehicles.

Previous models of Land Cruisers, Sequoias, Tundras, 4-Runner, Lexus LX 470s, and GX 470s are affected by the recall. Drivers and front seat passengers of the recalled vehicles are at risk of suffering injuries if the airbags above them suddenly deploy without warning. To address the problem, Toyota will notify owners and conduct free replacements of the airbag computers in their vehicles.

Accidents or injuries caused by defective auto parts can be especially difficult to overcome, as consumers place their trust in these manufacturers to create safe vehicles.
